Student Support Services at St. John Bosco

At St. John Bosco Catholic School, we are committed to meeting the diverse learning needs of all students. As part of this commitment, we offer additional academic support through our Resource Specialist—a dedicated teacher who works in partnership with students, classroom teachers, and families.

Our Team Approach to Student Success

At St. John Bosco, we believe that students learn best when they remain in the classroom setting with their peers, where they can participate fully and avoid missing any core instruction. We are committed to meeting students’ individual needs through a combination of accommodations, modifications, and differentiated instruction. By working closely with families and teachers, we ensure each child receives the appropriate support to thrive within the general education environment.

RAP Time: Reading and Phonics Support

At St. John Bosco, we are committed to building strong foundational literacy skills in our youngest learners. One of the key ways we do this is through RAP Time (Reading and Phonics Time), a targeted support program led by our Resource Department.

During RAP Time, members of the Resource team push into Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade classrooms to work with students in small groups as part of the daily reading centers. This time is focused on providing explicit phonics instruction, helping students strengthen their decoding skills, sound recognition, and reading fluency.

RAP Time serves as an additional layer of support for all students in these early grades, ensuring that emerging readers receive the intensive, focused instruction they need as part of their regular classroom experience, without being pulled away from core learning.

Building an Inclusive Future: Our Partnership with Inclusion Solutions

We are proud to share that St. John Bosco Catholic School has been awarded a three-year Matthew Project Grant beginning in 2025, supporting our ongoing commitment to inclusivity and accessibility for all students.

As part of this grant, we are partnering with Inclusion Solutions, an organization dedicated to empowering schools to better support diverse learners. Over the next three years, this partnership will provide:

  • Tailored professional development for all faculty focused on inclusive practices
  • Ongoing mentoring for teachers to apply new strategies in real time
  • Site visits and consultation to strengthen and build upon the strong foundation we already have

We are thrilled to be working with such a knowledgeable and mission-driven organization. This collaboration will help us continue to grow as a school where every student feels seen, supported, and successful. We look forward to the lasting impact this partnership will have on our entire school community.
