March 28

03-28-2025Notes from the PrincipalMrs. Jamie Bescak

Dear Parents,

We’ve officially reached the halfway point of our third trimester! This evening, parents of students in Kindergarten through 8th grade will receive a progress report via email. This report provides a snapshot of your child’s current academic standing and offers a valuable opportunity for continued growth before final report cards are issued on the last day of school, May 22nd.

I am happy to introduce our new art teacher, Mrs. Kristyn Piper. Kristyn has degrees and endorsements in art and education and years of experience. She is excited to join our St. John Bosco Community this Monday. She will assist with IOWA testing, carpool, and lunch duties as well as begin teaching art lessons in the afternoon. Please join me in warmly welcoming Mrs. Piper to our SJB family!

My sincere gratitude to everyone who completed our annual parent accreditation survey. Both Fr. James and I read each response and deeply appreciate your open and honest feedback. Your input and suggestions are invaluable as we strategize for the upcoming school year and beyond.

At St. John Bosco Catholic School, we believe that building a strong, faith-filled community goes hand in hand with our commitment to academic excellence. A key part of this partnership is family involvement through volunteering and fundraising, both of which are essential to our school’s success.

To this end, each family is expected to complete 25 volunteer hours per school year, and log these hours in RenWeb. Volunteering is a way to share your time and talents to help enrich our school environment. However, we understand that some families may have limited availability; in those cases, a $10 donation may be substituted for 1 hour of service. Please note that purchasing auction/raffle items, parking spaces, or event sponsorships do not qualify.

Additionally, fundraising plays a crucial role in supporting our programs. We encourage every family to participate in at least one of our three major fundraising events: the Bosco Gala, Running with Rosco, and Birdies Fore Bosco/End-of-Year Bosco Bash. Families unable to participate in at least one event will have a $200 fundraising fee added to their FACTS account at the end of the school year.

We also want to remind you that Iowa Assessments for grades 1–8 will take place from March 31st to April 4th. These standardized tests provide valuable insight into your child’s academic progress and help us tailor our instruction to meet their needs. To help them perform their best, please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep, eats a healthy breakfast, and arrives on time each day. We kindly ask that you refrain from scheduling appointments or missing school during this week, as make-up testing can be disruptive and students tend to perform best when testing with their peers. Your support in prioritizing attendance and preparation will help set up our students for success.

Thank you for your continued partnership in fulfilling the mission of St. John Bosco Catholic School!
