Arizona taxpayers are permitted to redirect their Arizona tax liability to a qualified STO, i.e. CEA, which in turn disburse the funds as scholarships.  After making a contribution the taxpayer receives a dollar-for-dollar credit on their tax return, either decreasing the amount owed the state, or increasing their refund.

STO’s are registered 501(c)3 organizations, so when you redirect your tax liability, you are making a charitable contribution.  In order to receive the tax credit, you must file the appropriate paperwork when filing your taxes.
